Local Roundup: Portal holds on for 10-9 win

    PORTAL — The Portal Panthers held off Windsor Forest, 10-9, on TUesday.
    Chase Kirkland pitched the final 3.1 innings, allowing two runs, one of them earned.
    Austin Brack drove in a pair of runs on two hits to lead the way offensively for the Panthers.
    Portal took an early 5-1 lead, but Windsor Forest scored siv in the fourth inning to pull ahead, 7-5.
    Portal answered with a five spot in the fifth.

SEB hammers New Hampstead
    BROOKLET — Seth Morgan pitched a three-inning, two-hit shutout and the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets run-ruled New Hampstead, 15-0, Tuesday at home.
    Drew Rushing, Jake Whitaker and Corey McCollum each had two hits for the Jackets.
    SEB returns to action at home Friday against Brantley County at 6 p.m.

Lady Jackets dominate JHS
    SAVANNAH — The Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets scored six goals in the second half and cruised past Johnson, 8-0, Tuesday on the road.
    The Jackets (6-1, 5-0 Region 1-AAA) were led by two goals and two assists from Morgan Friend, and a goal and three assists by Ana Olsen.
`Johnson did not attempt a shot on goal.
    The Jackets hit the road on Friday to face Brantley County.

SEBMS blanks Richmond Hill
    Southeast Bulloch Middle School pounded Richmond HIll, 10-0, on Tuesday.
    Bryce Harnage pitched a complete game, striking out 10 and allowing only two hits.
    Slade Burgin went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Adam Akins and Joe Ham each finished 2-for-3.
    The Yellow Jackets play Friday at Burke County.

SEB, SCHS match postponed
    BROOKLET — The scheduled tennis match between Screven County and Southeast Bulloch was delayed until today at 4 p.m.

Dublin tops Screven
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks fell 5-1 at home Tuesday against Dublin.
    Hannah Jones scored Screven's goal.
    The Gamecocks (8-4, 6-3 Region 3-AA) return top action on April 5 at Southeast Bulloch.

Josey no problem for Screven
    SYLVANIA — The Screven COunty Gamecocks run-ruled Josey, 15-0, Tuesday at home.
    Aaron Bower and Bobby Hodges combined for a no-hitter. They allowed three walks. All nine recorded outs were strikeouts.
    Shadon Kemp (2-for-2, 2 RBIs), Bailey Pollock (2-for-3, RBI) ans Browining Bargeron (triple, RBI) led the way offensively.
    Jamie Scarboro and Caleb Krulic each recorded a hit in the win.
    Screven (5-5, 3-2 Region 3-AA) travels to Swainsboro Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

GSU men knock off Furman
    Georgia Southern men's tennis picked up its fourth Southern Conference victory when it defeated Furman, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon at the Hanner Tennis Complex.
    The Eagles (8-6, 4-2 SoCon) took the doubles point early on in the match which proved to be critical in the narrow win.

GSU softball faces No. 22 UGA
    Georgia Southern closes its 12-game road swing on Wednesday night with a game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
    The Eagles enter Wednesday’s game leading the Southern Conference with a 4-1 league mark and a 15-17 overall record.
    Georgia is 25-7 overall and 6-0 in the SEC to lead the East Division. The Bulldogs are also ranked 22nd in the most recent NFCA Top 25 Poll.
