PORTAL — The Portal Panthers clawed back in to force overtime — twice — but the Calvary Day Cavaliers improved to 4-0 in Region 3A-A competition and held off PHS, 75-73, on Tuesday.
Portal (11-4, 2-2) trailed by 10 at halftime and seven after three quarters, but forced a 62-62 tie at the end of regulation.
Tied 68-68, Portal missed a buzzer beater in the first extra period, and fell behind Calvary's free-throw shooting in the final overtime.
Derek Kirkland led all scorers with 22 points for Calvary.
Stacy Morgan led Portal with 20 points, Corey Reese added 13 and Marquis Wells added 11.
Portal faces Claxton at home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Price, Claxton knock off JCHS
CLAXTON — The Claxton Lady Tigers took care of Jenkins County, 54-35, Tuesday at home.
Jazmine Price led all scorers with 21 points, and Ikeria Brown narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Jenkins County was led in scoring by Jonquetta Sanders, who finished with 15.
The Tigers (11-5, 3-1 Region 3A-A) return to action on Friday against Portal at 6 p.m.
Lady Cavs top Panthers
PORTAL — The Calvary Lady Cavaliers left Portal with a 61-33 win on Tuesday.
Brianna Raymond led the Lady Panthers (6-8, 0-4 Region 3A-A) with 10 points.
