When one player single-handedly outscores an opponent, it’s no wonder that the team is on a hot streak.
That is exactly the situation that the Statesboro boys soccer team has found itself in over the past two games. Senior forward Trent Doty notched a hat trick in the Blue Devils’ 5-2 victory over South Effingham last Friday and Doty racked up two more goals in an 8-1 pasting of Ware County Tuesday night.
“Everything has just been clicking lately,” said Doty. “We’ve really been focusing on our set pieces and it has been paying off in our games.”
Contributing to Doty’s success has been David Ball and Adam Purvis. The pair has combined to assist on seven goals in the two latest Statesboro wins and both have also knocked in two goals each during the run.
“We’re all on the same page out there,” said Doty. “We know each others styles and we know where to expect one another.”
Although his days as a Blue Devil are winding down, Doty still has plenty of soccer-playing days remaining, as he has signed to play for Georgia Southern this Fall.
“I’m very excited about playing at the next level and being able to stay home to do so,” said Doty. “But right now, I’m focused on our season. We’ve got a great shot to go somewhere in the playoffs.”
