ATLANTA — James Fields scored 18 points and Devonta White added 17 to help Georgia State beat Georgia Southern, 72-52, on Thursday for a school-record ninth straight win.
Eric Buckner finished with 13 points while Tony Kimbro Jr. had 13 and Jihad Ali chipped in with 12 for the Panthers.
The Eagles' Sam Mike tied the game at 10 before White knocked down a 3-pointer off a Fields assist, sparking a 21-5 run.
Georgia Southern (3-7) outshot Georgia State from 3-point range 50 percent (7 of 14) to 30 percent (6 of 20) and from the free throw line 71.4 percent (5 of 7) to 60 percent (6 of 10) but only took 44 shots during the game compared to 61 for Georgia State.
The Panthers (9-3) outrebounded the Eagles 30-22 and recorded 14 steals in the win.
Georgia State is off to its best start since beginning the 2000-01 season 11-1.
