Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel
Susan Williams Cassedy

Susan Williams Cassedy, age 60, of Statesboro, passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, at home under the care of Regency SouthernCare Hospice after a three-year courageous battle with colon cancer.

Born in Statesboro, Susan was the daughter of Loretta Waters Williams and the late James Williams. She was a graduate of Statesboro High School.

Susan retired after working 20 years with the Bulloch County Board of Education, serving as an administrative assistant for the assistant superintendent of Business Services. She also served as the secretary to the board of trustees for the Bulloch County Foundation for Public School Education since it was formed in 2006. Any current and past trustee will tell you that she was the heart and soul of the foundation. She was at the very core of helping plan and implement all its fundraising campaigns, grant awards, REACH Scholarship and special events, including the largest, the Statesboro 5K Turkey Trot.

The board of trustees thought so highly of her hard work and contributions over the past 20 years that it has established a new grant fund for schools called the Susan Cassedy CARES Scholarship.

Susan loved the beach and reading, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved to bake and cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

In addition to her father, Susan was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Willie Mae DeLoach Waters and Henry Waters; and her paternal grandparents, Beatrice Sowell Williams and Charles Grady Williams; and her beloved dog, Odie, who she is reunited with.

She is survived by her two daughters, Blair Cassedy Cook (Daniel) and Meghan Cassedy Spence (Will); and her mother, Loretta Waters Williams; her sisters, Deborah Wilson, Lauren Lavinder and Cyndy Skinner; her grandchildren, Molly Cook and Leah Cook, Cassedy Spence, Liam Spence; her nephews, James Wilson (Paige), Joseph Wilson (Caylee), Justin Wilson (Christina) and Matt Morris (Lorena); several great-nieces and great-nephews and very special friends, Lisa Hogan and Michael Harville.

The memorial service will be held August 12th, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Statesboro with Pastor Lee Collins and Troy Brown officiating.

Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Bulloch County Foundation for Public School Education – Susan Cassedy CARES Scholarship, c/o Bulloch County Schools, 150 Williams Road Suite A, Statesboro, GA 30458.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Margaret and the staff of Regency SouthernCare Hospice for the love and care given to Susan and the family.

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter, is in charge of the arrangements.
