Carol Jo Depta

STATESBORO, Ga. – Carol Jo Depta passed away after a long illness on August 20, 2026, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Born February 26, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, she lived with generosity, fierce independence and unwavering devotion to her family.

Carol's childhood love of horses grew into a lifelong affection for animals. A dog was almost always by her side, and her beloved Ping Pong held a special place in her heart.

She treasured fishing, boating, camping, Civil War reenactments, family RV adventures and time on the water. A devoted NASCAR fan, Carol proudly cheered for Bobby Allison, Mark Martin, Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson.

She is survived by her children, Kevin Swank (Samantha Blair), Karin Fisher (Steve) and Tony Swank (Carolina); grandchildren, Nicholas Geier, Gianna and Anthony Swank, Laura Ashley Fisher, Jacob Hoofman (Jessica), Kyle Hoofman (Kaylee) and Scott Fisher; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Chloe Yurkiewicz and Jameson and Jensen Hoofman; and her sister, Connie Reeder.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Depta; longtime companion, Don Greene; parents, Winifred and Paul Dellinger; sister, Vickie Dellinger; and nephew, John Reeder.

Her generous spirit remains with everyone who knew her. Her family gratefully acknowledges the hospice nurses and caregivers who provided compassion, dignity and comfort throughout her journey.

Carol will be interred with Bill at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Florida.

A celebration of life will be announced later.
