The suspect in a Statesboro rape was recently arrested in North Carolina and is now in Bulloch County Jail, Statesboro police said.
Clarence Hinson Lewis, 35, of Mikell Street, was arrested in Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 14 on a warrant issued by the Statesboro Police Department charging him with rape, the police department said in a news release issued Monday.
Lewis was then extradited Thursday from North Carolina to Bulloch County.
On Sept. 13, Statesboro police were called to a residence on Mikell Street in reference to a sexual assault. After further investigation, police determined that a rape had occurred, police said in an earlier news release.
Lewis and the victim both live at the residence on Mikell Street, police said.
The victim is a 24-year-old female with an intellectual disability. She had no other apparent physical injuries, police said.
