This past weekend deputies from the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office encountered an event involving a "car club" at Mill Creek Park.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the event involved reckless driving and was “an obvious danger to the public.”

One driver was arrested at the scene. Also, one of the vehicles involved attempted to flee from deputies in the area of Zettwell Road and Highway 24. The pursuit ended when the vehicle intentionally caused the deputy to crash by suddenly braking at a high speed, the release stated.

Several arrests were made in the case.

Saturday’s incident was similar to events occurring in larger cities, which are known as "street takeovers," the release stated.

These events involve taking over intersections while performing burnouts and other reckless maneuvers. “This will not be tolerated in Bulloch County,” Sheriff Noel Brown said. "I have instructed deputies to respond immediately to any of these events and to criminally charge anyone involved.”

The sheriff requested the public to notify the Sheriff's Office or call 911 if they witness one of these events in progress.
