Police seek suspect in Luetta Moore Park homicide

According to a press release from the Statesboro Police Department, SPD is currently investigating a homicide that occurred at Luetta Moore Park on Martin Luther King Drive in Statesboro. 
Saturday at approximately 7 a.m., patrol officers responded to Luetta Moore Park in reference to a male subject that had sustained gunshot wounds. The victim, a male identified as James Mikell Jr., 17,  was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bulloch County Coroner’s Office. 
Detectives from the Statesboro Police Department are currently investigating the case. Senior Detective Ben Purvis is the lead detective for this investigation.
“I have great confidence in our Detectives and we will do everything within our power to bring this young man’s killer to face justice. Our hearts grieve with the family today and we will not be deterred in our mission,” said Chief of Police Mike Broadhead. 
"We are not releasing any additional information at this time but will release additional information about the investigation as it becomes available. We ask the community for patience and support as we are diligently investigating this tragic incident."
