ATLANTA - Authorities in Telfair County in south Georgia have charged a 48-year-old man with first-degree arson in connection with a brush fire in Lumber City.

Authorities arrested Willie Frank Boyd on Wednesday, said Glenn Allen, a spokesman for Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John Oxendine.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

Allen said the Lumber City fire is not believed to be connected to the wildfire now burning in Ware County, about 53 miles south.

Allen said firefighters noticed Boyd had been watching them as they put out the blaze. Allen said the suspect went back to the same area and started another fire after firefighters put out the first one.

No injuries were reported.

Boyd - who is on probation for cocaine possession - remains in the Telfair County Jail.
