Angry because two others refused his invitation to drink alcohol with him, a Cindy Lane man attacked them with a knife, sending one man to the emergency room, police said. When officers found him hiding under a trailer, covered in blood, he told them he fell off his bicycle and denied involvement in the tussle.
“He had blood on his face, his arms, and his hands, as well as superficial injuries,” said Statesboro Police Det. Terry Briley.
Orlando Mendoza Garcia, 32, Cindy Lane, had been “consuming an excessive amount of alcohol” Wednesday evening and asked two neighbors to join him in the revelry, he said. But the two refused his offer, and it made Garcia mad.
“He wanted to fight” one of the victims, but the other victim intervened, Briley said. “Garcia didn’t appreciate that.”
He pulled a knife from a sheath and “took a swipe at” the man, causing a superficial cut on his side underneath his arm, he said.
Then he jumped on the other victim’s back, cutting him on the chest, “filleting a part of his right arm,” he said. “Then he stabbed him in the chest underneath his armpit, and cut him on the back and on the arm” before fleeing the scene.
The first victim didn’t require medical attention, but the second victim was transported to the emergency room at East Georgia Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was later admitted for observation, Briley said.
Police searched for Garcia and finally discovered him hiding underneath a trailer on Cindy Lane, he said. He denied involvement in the fight and told officers he suffered his minor injuries - as well as explained a considerable amount of blood on his body - due to a fall off a bike.
Officers believed he was responsible for the knife attack, however, and charged Garcia with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, Briley said. Garcia is currently held in the Bulloch County Jail without bond.
