Editor:

Archibald Bulloch Chapter, National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, is celebrating its Golden Anniversary during this year, 2014. Our local DAR Chapter was organized 50 years ago on February 29, 1964. To acquaint everyone with the many historical, educational and patriotic endeavors of DAR we invite you to read the following poem, "I Belong to DAR," written by Libba Smith, a Past Regent of Archibald Bulloch Chapter.

I belong to DAR, Daughters of the American Revolution

A patriotic and history-loving institution

Many think it is comprised, quite mistakenly,

Of "little old ladies" gathering mainly to sip tea

But it is much, much more than that, each year it does more and more

To promote worthwhile programs and projects by the score

DAR awards to young "Good Citizens," and to cadets in ROTC

Honoring our patriots, essays on our nation's history

Programs on our treasured document, our United States Constitution,

Helping to fund our DAR schools, all note-worthy institutions

As you reflect on all the above, we hope that you will see

DAR does so much more than gather to sip tea.

Archibald Bulloch Chapter is holding a Golden Anniversary Luncheon Celebration on February 27 in the Perry Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church at 12 noon Those wishing to attend should contact Pat Long, Treasurer (764-5045) by Thursday, February 20.

Sincerely,

Past Regent Linda Akins
Archibald Bulloch Chapter NSDAR
Golden Anniversary Celebration Chairman
