Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel will deliver the keynote address at Ogeechee Technical College’s 2009 Commencement Exercises on May 14, said OTC president Dr. Dawn Cartee. Ogeechee Tech’s graduation ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at Georgia Southern University’s Hanner Fieldhouse.
“We are always excited about this special time of celebration for our students,” Cartee said. “Having someone of Karen Handel’s caliber join in that celebration will make it even more special. With nearly 600 degrees, diplomas and certificates being earned since our last graduation, we expect a large group of students, family, and friends to attend.”
Handel was elected secretary of state in November 2006 and took office in January 2007.  She recently announced she will run for governor in 2010. Handel has a background in county government as well, having served as chair of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.
On the national level, Handel was a deputy chief of staff for the Bush-Quayle White House.  She also served as president and CEO of the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, and has experience with several Fortune 500 companies.
“With so many rich life experiences, I am sure that Secretary Handel will bring an interesting and inspirational message to those attending our commencement exercises,” Cartee said
