A drug deal observed by a Statesboro Police detective ended with two adults charged with possession of crack cocaine, and an adult and a juvenile being arrested for selling the drugs.
Det. Kevin Wadley saw what he believed to be a drug deal at the corner of West Jones Avenue and Deloach Street Monday, and called for assistance from other members of the Statesboro Police Criminal Investigations Division, said Capt. L. C. Williams.
Wadley, Lt. Det. Thomas Williams and Det. James Winskey stopped a vehicle driven by Barbara Maharrey, 50, Sid Sanders Place, with Wayne Hand, 48, Continental Road,  riding as a passenger, he said. Both were suspected of involvement in the "illegal narcotics sale" Wadley had seen, he said. Wadley found a crack pipe and some crack cocaine on Hand's person, and both he and Maharrey were arrested for cocaine possession and taken to the Statesboro Police Department for questioning, he said.
Wadley, Lt. Williams, Winskey and K-9 Sgt. Erk McCurdy then went back to the area to find the two individuals from which the suspects had purchased the drugs, he said.
Investigators found George Murray, 20, West Jones Avenue,  and a juvenile in possession of " a quantity of suspected crack cocaine along with $293," Capt. Williams said.
Both were arrested on charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute. Hand, Maharrey and Murray were taken to the Bulloch County Jail while the juvenile was taken to Claxton Regional Youth Detention Center.
