Downtown entrepreneur Heath Robinson is at it again. Robinson just opened The Hall which fronts Vine Street next to the drive-thru of the Sea Island Bank. The rear entrance of the building is across the alley from the rear of 40 East - Robinson's popular downtown eatery.
The Hall is just that, a 6,000 square foot building with an open interior designed to host events. The Hall has been open just over two weeks and Robinson said his facility has hosted nine events, with 47 more already booked through next April.
"The response has truly been overwhelming," Robinson said. "From fraternities and sororities, to meetings and weddings, the interest is varied."
Robinson said there is no fee to rent the space itself, you just have to have it catered by 40 East. And, there are different size spaces available.
"The catering can run the gamut in price," he said. "You can make it as fancy and expensive as you want, or do something much simpler. Whatever you would like, it is all about making the customer happy and working within their budget. It is available seven days a week."
Robinson said he sensed a real need for a facility in the heart of downtown for people who didn't really want to worry about booking a caterer per se.
"We were doing so much catering, it seemed logical to me to have our own catering facility," he said. "For cocktails and hors d'oeuvres we can accommodate as many as 325 people, and for a sit-down dinner, 200. Because it is right across from the restaurant, we know that we can provide the same great service and food that folks are used to getting at 40 East."
Robinson mentioned that plans are in the approval process for "sprucing up" the alley way between the two buildings with cafe lights and pavers.
"It will sort of be a renovation of sorts for the alley way with all of the buildings lining it benefitting," he said. "It should be very, very nice."
For you fans of Georgia Traveler on Georgia Public Broadcasting, the show just paid a recent visit to Robinson's other restaurant located in the Market District - Show Time Burgers.
"That was pretty exciting, and actually a lot of fun," he said. "Interestingly enough, they ate twice, once during filming, and then again after. That was sort of unexpected."
