CLAXTON - The Claxton High FFA Nursery/Landscape team competed against other schools from the surrounding area in the Central Region Nursery/Landscape Career Development event last month at Swainsboro High School. The team members Alicia Palmquist, Sadie Tetreault, and Skylar Massey placed ninth in the contest where they competed in identification of plant materials and disorders and completed hands-on problem solving and a written exam involving landscape design, production, and maintenance. The purpose of the landscape competition event, said Tonya Blocker, Evans School Nutrition director, is to stimulate career interest, encourage proficiency development, and recognize excellence in students of nursery practices and landscaping through the agricultural education curriculum.
