February may be the shortest month on the calendar, but don’t let your month be short on fun and family time. Make the most of all 28 days this month to create lasting memories with each family member. This is the only February you’ll get this year – make it a fantastic February.
Pay a Compliment Day – Officially, this holiday is celebrated on February 6, but why choose just one day to compliment the ones you love? Extend your brain and come up with enough compliments for each person in your family for each day of the month. Put them in a jar to pull out daily, or hide one each day in a lunchbox, on a pillow, or on the seat of a car.
Toothpick Day – Celebrate the anniversary of the toothpick with a prickly porcupine pet. Use clay to make a porcupine body and head. Push golf tees in the bottom of the body for legs. Then, poke colored toothpicks in the clay for quills. Read the book called, A Porcupine Named Fluffy, or sing a silly song about a porcupine found in the book, Oh My Darling, Porcupine.
Potato Lovers Day – Bake this cheesy delight together for dinner: Stir together one-half cup melted margarine, one-half tablespoon salt, one-half teaspoon pepper, one can cream of chicken soup, one cup of sour cream, and ten ounces of grated cheddar cheese. Pour one bag of frozen, shredded hash brown potatoes into a large bowl; stir in cheese mixture until well-combined. Pour into a casserole dish; top with crushed crackers and melted butter. Bake at 325 degrees for one hour. While the casserole is baking, use small potatoes cut in half and dipped in paint to make abstract artwork on construction paper.
Valentine’s Day – Fill the day with hugs and kisses and lots of love. Make homemade cards and eat lots of chocolate, sprinkle red or pink sugar candies on top of a milkshake and make biscuits in the shape of hearts, play tic-tac-toe with chocolate kisses candies and stay up late to watch a chick-flick. Have mushy, gushy fun, but most importantly, find time to let each special person in your life know just how much he or she means to you.
Gumdrop Day – Use gumdrops to make colorful bug creations. Line up green gumdrops and add cut pieces of black pull-apart licorice to make a caterpillar; use three red gumdrops and six small pieces of red pull-apart licorice to make ants. Use your own ideas to make other critters.
Give the kids a kiss, your honey a hug, and make warm memories this February.
