Downtown concerts get the Boro rockin'
dancing the tams
Music fans got off their feet and started dancing the Electric Slide, as the 14K Gold Band warmed up the crowd for The Tams, who kicked off the Statesboro Downtown Live summer concert series on June 1.

Downtown Live kicked off on June 1 as the city of Statesboro hosted the first of several summer concerts. The Tams rocked the Boro in a free concert, held near the Bulloch County Courthouse.

The Tams are an Atlanta-based group that has entertained audiences for more than 50 years with their blend of beach music and smooth soul. Two of their most memorable hits include, “Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy,” and “What Kind of Fool.”

The Grapevine Band will take the stage on June 29 at 6 p.m., also in front of the courthouse. The group’s music pays homage to the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s. On July 6, The Swingin’ Medallions will take the stage, also at 6 p.m. The band hit the big-time with their hit, “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love,” and they’ve been shaggin’ their way around the country, singing for audiences ever since.

The summer series will end with Liquid Pleasure on July 20, also at 6 p.m. The band has been performing for more than 50 years, and will perform covers from modern groups like The Black Eyed Peas and Outkast, as well as Motown staples.

Be sure to bring a lawn chair. Admission to each concert is free, but there will be food trucks and vendors on hand, so make sure you’re prepared to partake.
