Local Roundup - Screven continues Region 3-AA domination

SYLVANIA - The Screven County Lady Gamecocks (8-1, 3-0 Region 3-AA) continued their hot streak with a 5-0 win over visiting Swainsboro, while the boys held off the Tigers for a 3-2 win to complete the sweep Thursday.
The Lady Gamecocks' singles trio of Evan Sheppard (6-1, 6-3), Missy Zeagler (6-1, 6-2) and Katheryn Wells (6-2, 6-0) remained perfect on the season, while doubles pairs Sydnee Weaver and Kelsey Forehand (6-1, 6-1) and Lauren Bazemore and Lauren Thomas (6-1, 6-2) completed the shutout.
For the boys (5-4, 3-0), singles players Matt Lairisey (6-4, 6-3) and Chris Powell (6-4, 6-2) picked up wins, and doubles pair Eli Woods and Taylor Diggers completed the victory.
The Gamecocks return to action Monday when they host Effingham County.

 

Panthers blank Country Day
SAVANNAH - After back-to-back rainouts, the Portal Panthers (2-1 Region 3A-A) returned to action Thursday with a 3-0 shutout of Savannah Country Day.
Chad Busby went the distance on the mound, allowing only two Hornet hits in the shutout.
Nolan Clark (2-for-3) and David Denver each drove in a run, and Corey Walker and Bart Dentr added hits at the plate.
Portal hits the road for Claxton today at 6 p.m.

PHS, Bryan face off in track
PEMBROKE - The Portal Panthers competed against Bryan County on the track Thursday on the road.
First-place finishers for PHS were Chase Sheffield (100-meter) and Davon Spells (100m hurdles).
Sheffield (200), T.K. Mikell (400) and Vincent Bostic (800) each earned second-place finishes.
Portal returns to action Tuesday in Brooklet as Southeast Bulloch hosts a meet.

Bulloch tops EBA
The Bulloch Academy Gators swept Edmund Burke Academy in tennis action at Gator Alley Thursday.
The girls (4-0) won 5-0, with Ally Cheshire, Erin Sillivan and Anna Mallard getting singles wins and doubles pairs of Kate Anna Akins and Mary Katherine Spigener and Morgan Anderson and McKenzie Webb won matches to complete the shutout.
The boys (2-1) won 3-2 with Paul Son, Brandon Walker and John Hower winning singles matches to secure the win.
The next BA match is scheduled for Monday at Pinewood Christian.

BA JV faces South Effingham
The Bulloch Academy junior-varsity Gators played to a draw against South Effingham Thursday on the soccer field.
Keeper Brandon Burnsed was credited with the shutout, with the help of defenders Raybon Anderson and Cody Lanier.
The Lady Gators fell to SEMS 4-2.
Ashley Burke and Page Spence did the scoring for BA.
Both tams host Frederica Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
The varsity boys host Westminster today at 7 p.m.
