The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its Scholar All-America teams for the spring 2012 semester and Georgia Southern's swimming and diving team has been honored for the ninth straight semester.
"Earning Scholar All-America honors for the ninth consecutive semester is a very special honor for our team," GSU head coach Nate Kellogg said. “It is always one of our team goals and I am thrilled we were able to achieve that goal during the spring semester.”
The CSCAA ranks all NCAA Division I teams twice a year, once after each academic term. Teams with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher are named to the distinguished CSCAA Scholar All-America list. With the current Scholar All-America program in place since 2008, the Eagles have been included each semester.
GSU swimmers and divers posted a 3.37 GPA and finished among the top 50 Division I programs in the country. The Eagles improved their mark from the 2011 fall semester of 3.29. Six members of the swimming and diving team earned a 4.0 GPA in the spring, while 13 made the Dean's List with GPAs above 3.5. As a whole, GSU's athletics teams posted their highest composite grade-point average in department history with a 3.00 GPA for the Spring 2012 semester and a 2.96 for the 2011-2012 academic year.
