STATESBORO, Ga. -- Walter Mathews Aldred, 47 years old of Statesboro, Georgia, went to be with Jesus on Friday, June 15, 2018. He passed away in the presence of Hope Potter Aldred in the loving care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Walt was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the New Beginnings Sunday School Class and one of the founding members of the Roots and Wings Sunday School Class. Prior to his long illness, he was honored to serve as a lay liturgist, lay hospital visitor and usher and loved serving in the Soup Kitchen.
In 2000, he was a Pilgrim on the Walk to Emmaus and enjoyed many years of serving in the kitchen, as a secret angel and sponsoring many friends he loved.
Walt is a 1990 graduate from Statesboro High School and completed his degree in business from Georgia Southern University in 1997. He married his high school sweetheart in September 1997 and went on to begin his career in financial advising at Interstate Johnson Lane in 1998. He also served many clients he loved at Merrill Lynch through 2016. Walt was also a member of the Statesboro Rotary Club.
Walt was most proud to be the father of Walter Parrish Aldred, 16; and William Porter Aldred, 14. He is survived by their mother, Hope Potter Aldred; sister, Debbie Aldred Rossignol; brother-in-law, Hugo J. Rossignol; brother, Andrew C. Aldred; sister-in-law, Anne-Marie Sherwood Aldred; mother-in-law, Pam Parrish Childs; aunts and uncles, Sallie and Glenn Brinson, Adria and Biff Thompson and Grady and Debra Smith. Walt adored his nieces and nephews, Peyton, Parker, Piper, Josey Rossignol and Drew and Luke Aldred; and his cousins, Jake, Jud, Kelly, Corey, Brooke and Viv.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Aldred III and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Smith; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter H. Aldred Jr.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, June 18, 2018, from noon until 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Statesboro First United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Dr. Don Adams officiating, assisted by Dr. H. William Perry. Walt will be laid to rest next to his father in the Aldred family lot of Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro.
Pallbearers will be Atys Cope, Dougie Cope, Arnie Raith, Jud Hill, Tony James, Brant McGlamery, Corey Smith, Patrick Newton, Jack Conner and Bill Williams.
