Statesboro, Ga. — Mr. John Huey Chester, age 70, died Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a 1966 graduate of Statesboro High School. Huey served in the National Guard for eight years. He was employed with Martin-Ansley Cadillac- Oldsmobile, as the Service Department Manager, for 18 years. Huey worked with several auto dealers until beginning a career with finance companies. He worked several years with Sun Coast Finance and retired as Assistant Manager of Statesboro Finance. His love for mowing grass led him to starting his own lawn care business, which he has operated for several years.

Huey was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Huey loved to hunt and fish, and was known for his cooking skills. He loved food and especially boiled p-nuts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Chester and Jessie Smith Chester.

Surviving are his wife of 11 years, Janice Green Chester of Statesboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Marisa and Chris Gay of Statesboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Betty Chester and Emerson and Debra Chester all of Statesboro; a step son, Cody Harris of Ireland and a step son, Travis Sturdivant of Statesboro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Osborn officiating. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wes Chester, Heath Chester, Harvey Lively, Roy Reynolds, Dale Smith and Travis Sturdivant.
