Bulloch County Teacher of the Year and Georgia Teacher of the Year Top-10 Finalist Ashleigh Wright has received another honor, This time from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. 

On Thursday at Southeast Bulloch High School, the school district welcomed Mike Cox, commander of the local VFW Post 10825 in Statesboro, and Dean Rakoskie, also a member of the Post. Rakoskie also serves as the 76th State Commander of the Department of Georgia, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. 

Cox and Rakoskie presented Wright with two awards and a check for $300. She was the local Post-level and the district-level winner of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher program, as well. The district is made up of 11 VFW Posts in southeast Georgia. She also placed second at the state level of the competition. 

“Wright was nominated for the VFW program by Bulloch County Schools due to her role as an exemplary social studies teacher, who in teaching her American Government and Advanced Placement Government & Politics helps youth learn about our rich history, traditions and the role of our veterans in creating and shaping America,” said Hayley Greene, director of Public Relations for the school district.
