Second man charged in August shooting
Dexter Adams

Police arrested a second suspect Thursday they say was involved in an Aug. 24 shooting at The Lodge Apartments on Institute Street.

Dexter Adams, 32, of Patrol Road in Forsyth, is charged with aggravated assault and is in the Bulloch County Jail awaiting further court appearances, said Statesboro police Capt. Jared Akins.

Johnny Maurice Wiggins, 37, of Pamela Way, was arrested in September, he said. Wiggins is in jail on charges of parole violation, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and giving false information.

Statesboro police were called to The Lodge Apartments around 4:45 p.m.  Aug. 24, where they found a 42-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, he said. Officers “rendered aid until Bulloch County EMS arrived,” and the victim was taken to a Savannah hospital, where he was treated and released several days later.

After receiving numerous tips from the community, lead Detective Jodie Tanner identified the suspects as persons of interest, he said. A citizen tip led to Wiggins’ arrest, and a handgun “consistent with what was used” in the shooting was recovered from his apartment.

An officer who spotted Adams in the area arrested him Thursday on South College Street, he said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Tanner at (912) 764-9911.
