A Screven County man is missing, and while law enforcement has not yet declared foul play is suspected, “it is leaning that way,” said Screven County Sheriff Mike Kile.

Travis Tankersley was last seen leaving a friend’s house on Buck Creek Road between midnight Friday and 1 a.m. Saturday, he said.

A shirt that has been determined to be Tankersley’s was found near a dumpster in the area in which he was last seen, Kile said.

Tankersley is a white male, 38, who is 5 feet 8 inches tall and 140 pounds.

Search crews, including tracking dogs and helicopters, have combed the areas around Buck Creek Road and Newington Highway (Highway 24) in Screven County, Kile said.

“We are expanding our search,” he said Wednesday evening. “Deputies, Screven County emergency personnel and state officials have searched the area with tracking dogs, on foot and ATV, with boats and divers, and by aircraft in attempt to locate him.”

Anyone with any information about Tankersley’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Screven County Sheriff's Office at (912) 564-2013.
