Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old Statesboro man Friday night at Park Place Apartments.
According to a press release from the Statesboro Police Department, Forrest Kibler was found shot to death about 9:30 p.m. Friday at the apartment complex on Lanier Drive, just south of the Bypass. No other details have been released about the incident.

Park Place was the scene of a homicide in 2014 when Eric Reese was shot and killed. Police have responded to numerous incidents at the complex in the past year and some residents appeared before City Council back in May to air concerns about crime in Park Place.

At that meeting, Mayor Jan Moore said: "This is private property, but if it's private property that proves to be a nuisance, then we're going to get very involved with those people as to what they should and could be doing."

In a statement she released Saturday afternoon following Friday's homicide, Moore said:

"It is clear that there is an ongoing issue of serious, deadly criminal activity in Park Place apartments. In addition to constant patrols and police presence in the complex, the city has met with representatives and unit owners within Park Place and made suggestions that only owners can carry out such as private security on the property, surveillance cameras, fencing, putting up a gate to monitor entry, and increased lighting.

"The responsibility for securing their private property rests with the owners. It is my hope that the owners will figure out how to work together as a group to protect those that choose to rent from them and strive to become a designated 'Crime Free' housing complex."
