It was a busy Thursday at “Mornings unPHILtered” as three guests appeared on the show.
First up was Allen Muldrew, executive director of the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority. He told host Phil Boyum about First Friday, which will be held tonight from 5:30 till 8 pm in front of the courthouse.
The June First Friday event is sponsored by Frontier Communications. The theme will be “Stay-cation,” or what to do in Statesboro this summer. The event will showcase the many Bulloch County summer camps. These include those held by the Averitt Center for the Arts, the Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department, Georgia Southern University and more.
Manny's Bar and Grill will serve corn-dogs for 25 cents, and Pladd Dot Music will provide music during the event. Downtown businesses, such as Design By Five and Carriage House, will hold home decor sales during the event.
Muldrew reminded the show's listeners that the next Businesses After Hours event is June 17 at the Averitt Center. In addition, on July 9, there will be a “Welcome Home” for troops from the Statesboro area who are returning from overseas deployments. More details will be announced.
Kaye Miller from the Averitt Arts Center was Boyum’s next guest. Miller, the Summer Camp Instructor at the Averitt, came on to talk about her summer camp. Entitled the “Disney Princess Camp,” it is for girls age 5 through 7 and will be held at the Averitt from June 21-25.
The girls will learn Disney songs which they will perform in front of the parents on the last day of the camp. The camp, from 9 a.m. till noon, is $75. To register, call the Averitt at 212-ARTS.
Benji Thompson from Ogeechee Technical College, wrapped up the show. He announced that Ogeechee Tech was selected by the Disney Institute as the site for a training session entitled “Disney's Approach to Business Excellence.”
Thompson said Ogeechee Tech is one of only two places in the state to offer the exclusive training. The Disney Institute training session focuses on how individuals or businesses can successfully manage their own companies by showing how to apply the Disney culture to a business.
Walt Disney World is renowned for a successful business model, which focuses on brand loyalty, customer service and employee dedication. Thompson said the event will be held June 22 at the Ogeechee Conference Center from 8 am till 4:30 pm. The event is limited to the first 150 people, and fewer than half the seats still remain.
The cost of the session is $399. It will include a continental breakfast and lunch. Thompson said the fee for Bulloch County Chamber of Commerce members is $375, adding that larger groups are eligible for discounts.
