The woman fatally shot Monday afternoon in Bulloch County was identified Tuesday as Jessica Marie Bassfield and her husband Bryan Eugene Bassfield is charged with her killing.
The homicide stemmed from an apparent domestic dispute, said Jared Akins, chief deputy for the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office.
"Based on the hard work of all of the deputies involved, Bassfield has been charged as of today with one count of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault (family violence) and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime," Akins said.
Bulloch County sheriff's deputies, Bulloch County EMS and Georgia State Patrol troopers responded to the residence in the 500 block of Highway 301 South around 12:45 p.m. Monday, he said. The residence is located a few miles from the Evans County line.
There, deputies found the body of Jessica Bassfield, 28, dead from a gunshot wound. Citing the ongoing investigation, Akins did not disclose further details of the shooting.
Bryan Bassfield, the victim's husband, was on scene when first responders arrived. He was subsequently interviewed by Sheriff's Office investigators, while other investigators processed the scene. Bassfield, 30, was taken into custody and later arrested and charged. He remains in the Bulloch County Jail without bail.
