A man was killed and a second was wounded after shots were fired early Sunday morning at Primetime Lounge, police said.

Johnnie L. Benton, 25, of Rincon, died from the shooting, and Jamal Heard, 21, also of Rincon, is in stable condition after being transported to Savannah, Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a news release issued Sunday afternoon.

The shooting, which is being investigated as a homicide and aggravated assault, occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday at the nightclub on Northside Drive West, Turner said.

The families of Benton and Heard have been notified.

Turner said no more details are being released at this time, but that more information will be released as it comes in.
