Sarah Kathryn Brown became the bride of Garrison Robert Gay during a 4:30 p.m. ceremony held on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at Faith Chapel in Jekyll Island, Georgia. The Rev. Michael Batten of Brunswick, Georgia, officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Brinson Brown of Statesboro and is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dempsey Kent of Millen, Georgia, and the late Dolan Edward Brown Jr. and Mary Ann Brown of Twin City, Georgia.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Lee Gay of Statesville, North Carolina, and is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Howard Robert Woodward of Statesville, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie Rudolph Gay of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Given in marriage by her father, David Brinson Brown, the bride wore a custom-designed gown made by Scott Marchbanks, which featured a bodice of Italian silk crepe with a plunging neckline and a keyhole back. Long sleeves of silk chiffon were finished with wide cuffs and button closures. A flowing circular skirt of silk chiffon completed the classic but modern gown.
The bride wore a simple chapel-length tulle veil. Special accents included sapphire and diamond earrings and a pearl brooch, borrowed from family friends.
Kathryn Sheppard Shealy of Statesboro served as the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Katherine Teal Atkinson of Atlanta, Caroline Lea Benoist of Dallas, Texas; Caroline Brown Callaway of Metter, Coley Westbrook Carlisle of Charlotte, North Carolina; Brooke Tinsley Hargrove of Charleston, South Carolina; Susan Elizabeth Knighten of Atlanta and Morgan Kendall Joyce of McLean, Virginia.
Kate Anna Akins Breiner of Athens, Georgia; Hannah Wells Gay of Washington, D.C.; and Morgan Anderson Sonnier of Atlanta read Scriptures.
Hunter Sloan Gay of Charlotte, North Carolina, was best man. Groomsmen were John Henry Carmichael of New York, New York; Christian Noble Carlisle of Charlotte; Brandt Lewis Davis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Stephen Edgar Deal Jr. of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Collin James Engles and Calvin McPhail Kirven III, both of Washington, D.C.; and Dylan James McCue of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Crane Cottage of the Jekyll Island Club Resort.
The couple honeymooned at the Sugar Beach Resort on the island of Saint Lucia and now reside in Charlotte.
