Memorial Day. A great day to sit back, relax, and honor my vomit-inducing record, which week after week slips further and further into mediocrity. Have another cold one for me, will yah?
One day I’ll be over .500: 14-20.
Hibernation season
The Screven County baseball team made a run deep into the state playoffs this season. They ended their campaign in the quarterfinals, being swept by North Oconee.
With the Gamecocks’ loss, the prep sports season is now officially on ice.
That also challenges us sports folks to figure what to write about in the coming months — so if you got any good ideas send ‘em our way and we’ll look into them. What else do we have to do?
Also, congratulations to all the athletic seniors who graduated this past weekend. Good luck in whatever you end up doing and wherever you end up doing it.
Spotlight on baseball
One of the best things about Memorial Day is baseball.
Five games will have their pitches with the sun still high in the air today, and frankly, that’s the way it should be.
Day baseball just feels better. The crowds seem larger, the sunshine seems brighter and the crack of the bat seems louder.
I can’t mention baseball without talking about my Bravos. Their looking pretty good right now — if they could just find a way to play the rest of the schedule at home, we’d be in business.
The second loss to Arizona kept Atlanta in second place behind those pesky Marlins. Not a bad position to be in on May 26 after all the injuries to the pitching rotation. They’re hanging around, and I still believe they got a shot to win this thing.
Longest-season-ever
I know you’ve been waiting with baited breath for my NBA Finals prediction, but those playoffs are lasting longer than a Democratic primary. Baaaazing!
Would it be so wrong to pick a finals matchup after both conference series have already started? Oh well.
Let’s go Celtics-Lakers in the championship, for old times sake.
