The state playoff fate of Southeast Bulloch hangs in the balance and the Yellow Jackets face a sprint to the finish in order to keep up their recent streak of postseason appearances.
Southeast Bulloch (3-4, 2-3 Region 3-AAA) currently sits in fifth place in its region. And only the top four will head to the state playoffs. The Yellow Jackets are 0-3 against the four teams ahead of them in the standings - with one vital game upcoming - so there is no room left for error.
First up in the home stretch is a Thursday night trip to Garden City to take on Groves. While SEB has dropped a couple of games it could have easily won, that doesn’t appear to be in the cards against a Rebels team that is winless on the season and has been dead last in the region standings in every season that they have shared a region with the Jackets.
“We can’t take anything for granted, but we feel pretty good going into this one,” SEB coach Barrett Davis. “We really want to see how we can spread the ball around on offense and get some more guys involved.”
Every metric indicates that SEB should prevail, but that still leaves a hectic final week that will feature a rescheduled game against Beach on Tuesday before a Friday finale against Johnson.
“If we can win all three, you’re probably looking at a No. 3 seed," Davis said. "If you win two out of three, you might need some help to get a No. 4 seed.”
"Mentally and physically it’s exhausting. Coaches have to be on their game to install everything for the next opponent. Also puts kids at a disadvantage, but Beach will be in the same position as us, so we just have to be tough."
