Sprint South to hold free track meet

Sprint South, a local AAU track and field club, spends the year traveling to various meets around the county. Now, it’s gearing up for something special in its own backyard.
The team plans to give back to Bulloch County by hosting the first Sprint South Track Club Invitational, a free meet open to boys and girls ages 7-18. The event is slated for July 26 at 10 a.m. at Southeast Bulloch High School.
“We are doing this to bring everybody in the community together,” said Sprint South founder Samose Mays. “We want to offer something for everyone to be a part of.”
He hopes to make the free meet an annual tradition, a back-to-school-style event. Everyone is welcome, whether they run track or are just interested in giving it a try.
“We want to showcase our talent, look for new talent and just have some good-natured fun,” Mays said. “Anyone who wants to can come run with us.”
Registration is free and must be completed online (www.sprintsouthtrack.com) by July 21, no exceptions. After that date, the order of events and participants will be available on the team’s website. Awards will be sponsored by Donaldson Bonding.
Mays started Sprint South, a nonprofit program, in 2002 to increase exposure for local track and field athletes and give them a positive outlet in life. Hopefully, that will lead to an opportunity to go to college and earn an athletic scholarship.
