Region play hasn’t been kind for the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets. After a 2-2 non-region start, the Jackets have dropped their first two regional contests.

Two weeks ago, they lost to West Laurens, 21-0, and last week it was a 28-14 defeat at the hands of Harlem leaving them with a current record of 2-4. Head Coach Jason Anthony felt like a few calls on possible Halen turnovers could have changed the game around but feel the team is holing up besides having two-straight losses.

“Whether the officials missed a couple calls or not we have to find a way to put a consistent game together,” Anthony said. “Our kids fought hard and have shown their resilience by coming back strong at practice this week. Our offense finally seemed to turn the corner in the second half with some nice runs as well as a couple touchdown passes from J.K. Small to Eli Reed. Our defense played well in the first half and then started looking a little tired in the second half so we have to work on that.”

Anthony attributes some of the improvements on the team to maturity, while a couple of the issues they are having are being addressed this week at practice.

“Our quarterback J.K. Smalls is developing and getting better with being comfortable in our offense,” Anthony said. “I feel like our offensive line played really well in the second half and I’m hoping they can continue that improvement. On defense we have to make sure to clean up the small things and pay more attention to the details.”

This week the Jackets hit the road to Savannah to take on the 3-2 Windsor Forest Knight. The Knights haven’t played the kind of schedule SEB has. Friday, they opened the region with a 24-19 loss to Liberty County.

The Knights are led by junior quarterback Jayden Martin who leads Windsor Forest in rushing with over 100 yards per game. He also has seven touchdowns and has passed for six scores and over 900 yards.

“It all starts with their quarterback,” Anthony said. “Their quarterback came over from South Carolina and they have a running back who is talented and came over from Calvary. We are really going to have to contain the quarterback and put some pressure on him and not allow big plays. Up front we may have a little more size and strength. We have to be able to run right at them and make this a physical game in order to come out on top.”

Southeast Bulloch and Windsor Forest are scheduled for a 7:30 start Friday in Savannah.
