The Southeast Bulloch boys tennis team became region champs at the Bacon Park tennis complex in Savannah on Wednesday.
The Yellow Jackets were strong throughout the regular season and found an extra gear in tournament play as they took down top-seeded Savannah Arts in the tournament final.
Winning for the boys were John Cromley at No. 1 singles, Tyler Hunter at No. 2 singles, and Ian DeRossa and Avery Jaynes at No. 1 doubles. The boys had defeated Islands High School in earlier play. The newly-crowned Region 3-AAA championship squad is rounded out by Jake Baker, Evan Brantley, Austin Williams, Aaron Gay, and Travis Rushing.
On the girls side, the Lady Yellow Jackets finished as Region 3-AAA runners-up when they were defeated in the finals by Savannah Arts on Wednesday. Like their counterparts on the boys side, the Lady Jackets had advanced to the tournament championship by taking out Islands in the semifinal.
The Southeast Bulloch girls squad is made up by Iciar Franco, Samantha Groover, Sofia Navarres, Maddie Adams, Libby Williams, Maddie Laesser, Chloe Branch, Lacey Crosby, and Olivia Spitler.
Both the boys and girls' teams will play Peach County High School next Wednesday at SEB beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the first round of the Class AAA GHSA state playoffs.
Coaches Barbara Cromley and Chip Grantham are proud of the hard work and effort made by both teams.
