The Statesboro Blue Devil softball team is currently 15-4 and 6-3 in region play. With only one region game left, the Blue Devils are hoping for a little momentum as they begin the postseason in two weeks.
One player who has helped lead the charge in what has been a tremendous turnaround is senior infielder Madison Holmes.
“Madison is the heartbeat of our team and was actually crowned SHS Homecoming Queen on Friday,” said Statesboro coach Karry Parker. “She is the heartbeat of our team. Her constant positive energy, cheerleading and coachability are keys to our success this year.
“She is accountable for her performance and supports every player on our team. She has played several positions for us this year and always brings her best effort.”
“I feel like my role on this team is being a vocal leader and to try and uplift the team,” Holmes said. “Even if I’m having a rough day, I try not to let it show because I know people are looking to me on how to react in different scenarios.
“I think the reason we are having great success as a team this year is our senior leadership and genuine bond. When one of us is having an off day, another senior is able to step and fill a role. This has allowed us to adapt more fluidly, and has overall built trust between all 15 of our team members.”
