The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets have moved up a classification this season, but are still mowing down the competition.
A big part of that success comes from the pitching dominance provided by Sierra Peebles. Although she is just a sophomore, Peebles is among the toughest pitchers in Region 1-AAA.
Peebles saved one of her best performances of 2012 for the Jackets’ biggest game so far this season. In a showdown against Appling County — SEB’s main competition in its sub-region — Peebles allowed just two hits and struck out six in the Jackets’ 2-0 victory.
“I like pitching when there’s some pressure,” said Peebles. “We all knew that it was a big game. I just focused on throwing strikes and everyone played good defense behind me.”
The Jackets began the season with a few rocky games against tough competition, but have since turned things around and are currently 3-0 in region play. There is still a long way to go, but SEB seems poised to contend for a region championship in its first season in Class AAA.
“I think that we all believe we can achieve that,” said Peebles. “It’s definitely our goal to win the sub-region, then try to win the region. We have a lot of talent, so that’s definitely something that we can do if we play well.”
