SEB pounds Islands

BROOKLET - After an 0-4 start to the 2014 season, the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets are now one step away from earning their second consecutive trip to the state Class AAA playoffs.

A 41-0 dominating victory Friday over Islands High at Fred Shaver Field sends SEB into its Region 1-AAA play-in game on a five-game winning streak with a state playoff berth on the line. The Yellow Jackets will play host to Appling County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday night at Fred Shaver Field. No passes to the game will be accepted, and all tickets are $8. Advance tickets will be available at Southeast Bulloch High School next week.

Appling defeated the Jackets in a 2013 contest, but they have not played this season. A victory over Appling not only would secure a spot in the state playoffs, but guarantee SEB a home game in the first round as either the first or second seed out of Region 1-AAA.

Southeast quickly took away any hopes Islands may have held for an upset when Chase Walker scored on a 38-yard run 1:14 into the game. The Yellow Jackets quickly built a 21-0 lead less than seven and a half minutes into the game behind an 8-yard scoring run by Michael Davis and a 62-yard run by Walker.

Walker added his third touchdown of the night on a 6-yard run with 2:35 to play in the second quarter, and Davis scored from 40 yards out 95 seconds later to give Southeast a 34-0 lead at halftime.

Sophomore Alfonso Scott sored SEB's only touchdown of the second half on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. The second half was played under running time.

The freshman Walker rushed for 130 yards on the night on only five carries, giving him 1,222 yards for the season and 15 touchdowns. Davis finished with 111 yards rushing on seven carries.
