    The Statesboro Athletic Hall of Fame is proud to announce the upcoming addition of six new members.
    They will be officially inducted at the organization's induction ceremony today at 7:30 p.m., in the SHS Auditorium. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Blake Burke ('83)
    Three year starter for SHS Baseball. ... Highest batting average his junior and senior seasons. ... Offensive player of the year his junior year. ...  Named team MVP his senior season. ... An All-Star catcher, he played one year at South Georgia College, then three years at Georgia Tech. ... Was a starter his junior and senior seasons. ... Played on three straight ACC Championship teams.
 
Ron Christian (1995)
    A scholar athlete who played football, basketball, and track during all four years at SHS. ... As a football player he played wide receiver, and then quarterback for coach Charles Webb. ... As a basketball player he was part of one of SHS's best eras. Named defensive player of the year his junior and senior seasons. ... During the spring he competed in the shot put, discus, and high jump, setting several school records. ... He went on to earn a basketball scholarship to Maryland-Eastern Shore.
 
Lehman Franklin (1958)
    Played four years of football, named co- captain during his senior year. ... Was an outstanding running back. Named all state in 1957. Played on championship teams in 1956 and 1957. ... Also, an outstanding runner, he was captain of the track team, and won state his senior year. Went on to attend the University of Georgia.
 
Janet Reddick (1977)
    Played four years of varsity basketball from 1974-1977. Named MVP in 1977. ... Played varsity tennis in 1976. ..  Went on to star at Georgia Southern in both softball and basketball. ... Went on to become a very successful basketball coach in the Coastal Empire.
 
Jim Tillman (1967)
    Played four years of football. Named co-captian his senior year. ... Voted best all around athlete, and best defensive lineman. ... Played four years of basketball, and ran track in the spring. ... He received a scholarship, and went on to play at Georgia Tech.
 
Bill Schofill (Honorary inductee)
    This years honorary inductee, was the former head coach and athletic director of the Blue Devils from 1977-1983. He is one of the all-time great coaches in Georgia prep football with 216 career wins.

GSU's Knight given SBC honor
    NEW ORLEANS — Georgia Southern senior Anna Claire Knight has been named second-team Preseason All-Sun Belt in a poll by the league’s 11 head coaches, it was announced today.
    Knight was a 2014 All-Southern Conference selection and earned second-team all-tournament honors. The guard ranked third in the league in scoring with 15.9 points per game to go along with 4.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists a contest. She became just the third Eagle to score 400 points in a season since 1998-99 and the sixth player in school history to top the 1,000-point mark in her junior season. Knight scored in double figures in 27 games, topping the 20-point mark in five contests, and tallied the first triple-double in program history with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists at Samford Jan. 6, 2014.
    The Eagles were picked 10th in the league’s Preseason Poll, one spot ahead of UL Monroe. Arkansas State is picked to win the league, followed by UALR, Texas State, Georgia State and Troy.

The Statesboro-Bulloch County Parks and Recreation Department reported recent Youth Football and Soccer scores.
    In the Midget Tackle football league on Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns dominated over the New York Jets 26-0 and the Atlanta Falcons won against the Miami Dolphins 26-0.
    In the Minor Tackle football league, the Colorado Buffalos beat the Kentucky Wildcats 19-0. The North Carolina Tarheels defeated the Columbia Lions 25-0, while the N.C. State Wolpack beat the Texas Longhorns 20-6. The Tennessee Volunteers defeated the LSU Tigers 25-0. The Auburn Tigers beat the Florida Gators 26-6.
    In under-10 Soccer league the Rail Hawks won against the Statesboro ENT & Sinus Center Mustangs 3-0. Saxon & Haas Accounting Boomers defeated the Strikers 4-1, while the Silverbacks were victorious over the Rowdies with a score of 3-0.
    In the U-12 Soccer league, the Galactic Comics & Games Team USA defeated Team Italy 4-0. Team Holland scrapped by Team Brazil winning 1-0.
