Local Roundup: SHS basketball off to a fast start

    SAVANNAH — The Statesboro Blue Devils opened the 2010-11 basketball season with a pair of wins Friday and Saturday at the Windsor Forest tounament.
    The Devils (2-0) won the first game againstt Windsor Forest 60-55.
    Jaqawn Raymond led all SHS scorers with 19 points, and Johnathan Taylor finished with a double-double, scoring 12 points and pulling in 12 rebounds.
    Edwin Harvey added 10.
    In the tournament's second game, Statesboro defeated Savannah's Jenkins High School 58-55.
    Again, Raymond was the leading scorer (21 points). Brickey Hendley had 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Harvey finished with 10.
    The Blue Devils return to action today when they face Bradwell Institute tonight at 7 p.m. in Savannah at Johnson's Joe Green Classic Tournament.

Chain Baseball upcoming events
    GARDEN CITY — Chain Baseball has several events on the schedule before year's end.
    Saturday at Chain Field in Garden City, 14U tryouts will be held.
    Coach Wollenburg's Bat Speed Camp will begin on December 4, and will be lkimited to the first 20 children, ages 10-18, that sign up.
    Coach Cole's Agility and Situational Baseball Camp also starts Dec. 4. The camp, for children 7U-12U has six slots remaining.
