Local Roundup: SEB wins region game on the road

    NAHUNTA — The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets were too much for Brantley County, winning 78-69 Saturday on the road.
    The Yellow Jackets (14-7, 11-3 Region 1-AAA) had four scorers reach double digits. Preston Smith (20 points), Markel Ming (14), Sheldon Hendrix (12) and Lamont Ballard (11) led the way for SEB.
    The Jackets face region rival Tattnall County at home on Monday at 7:30 p.m., in a makeup game from last week.
Claxton girls take down Metter
    CLAXTON — The Claxton Lady Tigers beat visiting Metter 60-45 on Saturday in non-region action.
    Claxton (19-3) played stifiling defense in the first half, limiting Metter to 12 points through the first two quarters.
    Keri Brown dominated under both nets, scoring 17 points and adding 17 rebounds.
    Devonna Brewton recorded six assists and added 12 points, and Taylor Fiveash finished with 10 points.
    Claxton will play a makeup game against Calvary Day on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Claxton evens record with win
    CLAXTON — The Claxton Tigers knocked off Metter 54-48 on Saturday at home.
    Claxton (10-10) sealed the victory with 10 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter.
    Cornelious Taylor led CHS with 20 points and Darvis Small added 17.
    Claxton hosts region rival Calvary Day for a makeup game on Monday at 5 p.m.

GSU track sets new top times
    CLEMSON, S.C. — Sherrill McFarlane posted the second-best time in Georgia Southern history in her first-ever 400m indoor race Saturday at the Bob Pollack Classic at Clemson. Her 56.04 time in the 400m is behind only record holder Marlo Mincey, the Eagles’ current Head Coach. Junior Jasmin Walker ran a 7.62, a personal best, in the 60m Dash Saturday for the fourth-best time in the program’s history.
