Local Roundup: SEB takes regular season finale

    BROOKLET — The Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets only had one senior to honor on Senior Night, but they went out with a bang anyway, topping Calvary Day 3-2 in the final regular-season game of the year.
    The lone senior, Storm Williams, had a big day, crossing the plate once and going 2-for-3 at the plate.
    Morgan Joyner was also 2-for-3 and added an RBI, and Mary Grace Manahan also drive in a run.
    Pitchers Madison Fields and Blair Chapman combined for the win and struck out nine Calvary batters.
    Southeast Bulloch (18-8, 10-0 in the subregion) will have a weekend off before beginning play in the Region 1-AAA tournament.
    The Jackets and Pierce County each earned a No. 1 seed, earning a bye while the play-in rounds take place today and Friday.
    The double-elimination portion of the tournament begins on Tuesday, where SEB will play the winner between Appling County and Johnson for a spot in the GHSA Class AAA state playoffs.
    The tournament takes place in Blackshear on two fields on the campuses of Pierce County High School and Pierce County Middle School.

    WJMS sweeps tennis match
    The William James Middle School boys and girls tennis teams each won matches on Tuesday over Langston Chapel Middle School 4-1.
    Winning in singles for WJMS boys (3-0) were Candler Jordan and Braden Mock.         
    In doubles, the pairs of Jackson Proctor/Mikal Mascarello and Lagan Anderson/Garrison Littles were winners.  In exibition matches, Janard Mike/ Harrison Cork won as well as Carter Moore/David Lippincott.
    For the girls, Jada Scott and Lauren Jung won in singles. Doubles pairs Grace Jameson/Abby Welch and Joy Jameson/Addison Taylor won in doubles.
    Jill Jameson/Zoey Thompson won an alternate match against Langston. 
    WJMS returns to action on Thursday at Mill Creek against Southeast Bulloch Middle School.

SHS road game tickets on sale
    Tickets are on sale at Statesboro High School for this week's SHS Blue Devils football game at Coffee County. 
    Tickets are $8 in advance and will be $10 at the gate in Douglas.                 Tickets will be sold from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Friday.
