Local Roundup: Screven tennis dominates Swainsboro

    SYLVANIA — The Screven County boys (8-5) and girls (9-4) tennis teams each swept Swainsboro, 5-0, Thursday at home.
    Singles winners were Rebekah Woods (6-0, 6-0), Mallorie Boswell (6-0, 6-0), Jancy Durrence (8-0), Jacob Lariscy (6-2, 6-4), Ryan Bazemore (6-4, 6-0) and Raj Patel (6-4, 4-6, 6-1).
    Doubles pairs taking wins were Pamela Wooten and Keri Lane (6-2, 6-0), Haley Jackson and Laura Scott (6-2, 6-1), Daniel Weaver and Zachary Weaver (6-4, 6-3) and Clay Kirkland and Dylan Koch (6-3, 6-2).
    The Gamecocks resume action on April 8 at home against Savannah Country Day.

Gamecocks win 5-team meet
    SYLVANIA — The Screven County Gamecocks racked up 156 points, more than twice any other team's total, to win a five-team meet against Tattnall County, Johnson, Portal and Calvary Day on Thursday.
    First-place finishers for Screven were Bobby Bangs and Bryce Hohnson (tie, discus—123 feet, 11 inches), Tyler Williams (triple jump—42 feet, 200 meters—23.17 seconds), Quan Smith (400—54.02), Zachary Durrence (pole vault—11 feet), Devaughn Bryant (300 hurdles—42.72, 800—2:16), Josh Kearson (100—11.41, 110 hurdles—15.98) and the 4x400 relay team of Chance Harkins, Antone Bunbury, Bryant and Smith (3:44).
    The Lady Gamecocks, who placed third, got first-place finishes from Kaitlyn Skinner (discus—114 feet, 11 inches), Ashley Harrison (3200—14:50), Vaneisha Lawton (300 hurdles—52.21, 100 hurdles—17.66) and K.B. Scruggs (1600—6:13).
