Local Roundup: Screven falls after tough 2nd half

    SYLVANIA — The Screven County Gamecocks led at the half, but couldn't survive a second-half onslaught by Heard County and lost 28-6 on Friday in the second round of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs.
    The Gamecocks (10-2) led 6-0 at the half. Heard gave SCHS good field position with a 19-yard punt, and the Gamecocks marched 47 yards on six plays capped off by a CJ Wright touchdown from four yards out.
    In a first-half defensive battle, the teams combined for only 125 total yards.
    The Gamecocks fumbled in the fourth quarter, had a punt blocked in the third and missed an onside kick as Heard County scored 28 unanswered points.
    The scoring started when star HCHS running back Duranta Dunson ran in a touchdown on third-and-12 from 75 yards out.

GSU offers ticket discount
    Fans who present their Bulloch Telephone bill or a receipt from Walker Pharmacy can receive a special ticket offer for Georgia Southern Football tickets for the home finale at Paulson Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 29. Kickoff for the game is at 6 p.m. with a ceremony to honor the seniors prior to the start.
    The ticket office will accept the bills and receipts starting Monday through Wednesday in exchange for the special ticket offer.
    The office will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.         After Thanksgiving, it will be open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday.
    Each fan can purchase up to two tickets with a Bulloch Telephone bill or Walker Pharmacy receipt.
    Other ticket specials for this final home game are  also available through the Georgia Southern Athletics Ticket Office. Seats in the mid-deck Sections II, JJ, KK, LL and NN are $15 prior to the date of the game. Tickets in Sections 101, 102, 103, 104, 110, 111, 112 and 113 purchased in advance are $28. Tickets for the North Stands lower level are $20 each.

VB Eagles fall to UT Arlington
    Hannah Baptiste recorded 11 kills and seven blocks and UT Arlington had 14 blocks as a team to earn a 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-14, 25-20) Sun Belt Conference volleyball victory over Georgia Southern Friday night in Hanner Fieldhouse.
    Jamie DeRatt collected 15 kills and nine digs, while Cathrine Murray added 15 kills and 10 digs to lead Georgia Southern (7-22, 6-13).
    Megan Chevalier finished with 10 kills, and Kat Minnerly posted 41 assists and 13 digs. Avery Stephens had a match-high 21 digs.
    The Eagles finish out the regular season with a 1 p.m. contest against Texas State Saturday in Hanner Fieldhouse. It’s Senior Day, and Georgia Southern will honor seniors DeRatt and Coley prior to the match.

UGA hoops tops Troy

    ATHENS (AP) — Nemanja Djurisic and Marcus Thornton each scored 17 points to help Georgia beat Troy 82-60 on Friday night.
    Starting point guard Charles Mann added 14 points and eight rebounds, and J.J. Frazier had six assists in a reserve role for the Bulldogs (2-1).
    Wesley Person finished with 20 points and Chris Bilbo had 10 points and nine rebounds for Troy (1-2).
