Local Roundup - Portal takes pair from Jenkins Co.

            On Tuesday, Portal traveled to Millen for a pair of games against Jenkins County. The  junior varsity won 8-2 and the varsity won 17-5 in six innings.

            For the JV,  Jordon Cowart was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI. Brenden Carroll was 2-for-4, and Brandon Hodges was 1-for-3 and the winning pitcher.

For the varsity, Nolan Clark stole the show, crushing three home runs and driving in nine on the night. He has a total of 12 RBIs and 4 home runs this week.

            Chad Busby was 2-for-3 and the winning pitcher giving up just two earned runs.

            Nick McCrainie was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Bart Dutton was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Charlie Waters was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Casey Ware was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

            The Panthers will host Calvary today at 5 p.m.

            The Portal junior varsity and varsity teams played Burke County on Monday. The junior varsity lost 10-5 and the varsity lost 9-4.

            For the JV, Carl Smith was 2-for-3. Brenden Carroll was 1-for3 and the losing pitcher.

            For the varsity Panthers, Nolan Clark was 2-for-4 with one home run and 3 RBI. Bart Dutton was 2-for-4. Chad Busby was 2-for-3. Ravon Hutchison was 2-for-2, and Chase Thompson was 2-for-2. 


SCHS soccer falls to Calvary

                Screven goalkeeper Jessica Markovcic came up with 16 saves, but a relentless Calvary Day attack eventually won out as the Lady Gamecocks dropped a 2-0 decision Tuesday evening in Savannah.

                With the loss, Screven drops to 6-5-1 on the season.

                The Gamecocks will be back in action Thursday as Screven hosts Statesboro at 5 p.m.
