Bulloch Academy senior Dylan Stuckey has been selected to play in the 2014 Georgia Independent School Association All-Star football game this Saturday in Macon.
The event, slated for noon at Mercer University, features players who represent teams from both classifications of the GISA. Stuckey will play on the East squad.
“It’s a great honor,” said Bulloch Academy head football coach Terence Hennessy. “A total of 70 players were selected out of the entire GISA and there are just 35 players per team. Dylan is very deserving of this.”
Stuckey had a stellar season for the Gators, who were Region 2-AAA runners-up, made the first round of the state playoffs and finished the year with a 7-5 record.
As a fullback, he ran for 741 yards on 125 carries. He scored eight touchdowns and converted a pair of two-point conversions.
He also caught four passes for 49 yards.
On defense, Stuckey started at linebacker and was the team’s second-leading tackler.
He had 63 solo stops, 37 assists, two sacks, two recovered fumbles and one caused fumble.
The players for each all-star team were selected by the all-star coaches, who were nominated by their peers in the GISA Coaches Association.
The players were picked by position from all senior football players in the GISA, regardless of classification.
All players reported to Macon by Thursday.
The teams will practice twice on that day as well as twice on Friday. Representatives from the football programs of many colleges and universities in the Southeast will be in attendance at Saturday’s game.
Other area student-athletes chosen as East All Stars are Brenley Hagan, Collin Edgar, Chancellor Randall and Joshua Barnard from the Class AAA runner-up Pinewood Patriots, Drew Todd, Addison Fisher and Zach Holmes from Robert Toombs, Chandler Moore from David Emanuel, Zach Paulk from Edmund Burke and D’Quavis Douse, McKinley Habersham, Miacah Cooper and DeQuare Hunter from the Class AA state champion Memorial Day School.
Thomas Sullivan from Robert Toombs is the head coach of the East team. His assistant coaches include RTCA’s Sam Sullivan, Henry Gardner and Will NeSmith and David Emanuel’s Ty Mingle.
