BA girls take second in Region 4-AAA cross country

MARTINEZ — The Bulloch Academy varsity girls’ cross country team finished second in the GISA Region 4-AAA championships Saturday.

Sisters Ashley and Haley Burke led the Lady Gators with fourth and fifth-place finishes respectively. Ashley clocked a 21:29 while Haley finished in 22:03. The remainder of Bulloch’s top five was Heather Jacobs (23:41, 9th), Hannah Dasher (24:35, 15th) and Maddy Manack (25:06, 16th).

Host Augusta Prep won the region title.

The BA boys took fourth in the 46-runner meet. Leading the way for the Gators were Cody Lanier (20:03, 15th) and Will Marsh (20:08, 16th). The remainder of the top five was Christopher Williams (20:35, 20th), Hunter Jacobs (20:49, 21st) and Twala Themba (21:01, 22nd).

Westminster of Augusta won the region title. Trinity Christian School’s Kaleb McLeod won the individual meet with a time of 17:11.

The Burkes were named All Region for their efforts. The Lady Gators also took home the region runner-up trophy in 2010.

Both squads Bulloch Academy will run in the Class AAA meet on Oct. 29 on the course at Wesleyan College in Macon.
