Athlete of the Week: Mincey leads CHS to Region 3-A play-in game

In the biggest game of the season, Shavez Mincey came out with one of his best performances yet.
Last Friday, Claxton and Metter squared of in their regular season finale. Already rivals, the game was given even more meaning in that the winner would clinch the final play-in spot for Region 3-A and keep hopes of a state playoff appearance alive.
“We knew that it was a big game,” said Mincey. “We spent all week trying to get focused, and then we were able to get things done on the field.”
The things that got done were due in large part to Mincey’s legs. He toted the ball 28 times, racked up 130 yards, and visited the end zone twice in Claxton’s 28-13 win.
“I was happy with my performance, but it’s really to everyone’s credit,” said Mincey. “The offensive line blocked well all night and our other running backs and receivers were all gaining yards.”
While impressive, Mincey’s performance will have to be put on the back burner. Tonight, the Tigers travel to Wrightsville to take on undefeated Johnson County to try and earn a spot in the state playoffs.
