Seeing a No. 3 Emanuel County Institute jersey tearing up and down the field on Friday nights should come as no surprise to Bulldog fans. Following in the footsteps of his older brother, Wezley Ealey has proven himself to be among the elite.
Now leading the ECI rushing attack, Ealey has amassed 562 yards on the ground and has found his way into the end zone nine times already this season.
“We know that we can be a good team again this season,” said Ealey of the third-ranked Bulldogs. “Everyone got better during the offseason and now we’re getting to work.”
ECI is off to a 4-0 start this season and won its first sub-region game in impressive fashion, pummeling Treutlen by a 44-0 count.
With his impressive stats and his team preparing for another deep run into the playoffs, Ealey will likely have an opportunity to continue playing at the college level next season.
Still, he is keeping things in perspective.
“It’s all about getting the wins,” said Ealey. “That’s the most important thing. (As for) playing in college, I know I’ve got some good stats, but I’m staying focused on keeping my grades up.”
