Many high-schoolers would find it hard to live up to expectations after being named to an All-State team in their sophomore season.
As for Statesboro’s Quan Daniels, he just keeps finding new ways to impress.
With Statesboro trailing Lakeside 14-0 at the half last week, Daniels took over the game. He carried the ball nine times in the second half, amassing 165 of his 184 yards and all four of his touchdowns on the night as the Blue Devils rallied for a 28-21 victory to keep them unbeaten on the season.
“I was just trying to get us a win,” said Daniels. “When you’re behind, you’ve got to bear down. Every time I get the ball, I’ll try to make something happen.”
Aside from the Devils’ still-perfect record, the win over Lakeside was huge in that it was the first sub-region contest of the season for Statesboro.
After coming within inches of making it to the state championship last season, the Devils have another big playoff run in mind for 2011 and Daniels is determined to do his part.
“Championship,” said Daniels. “That’s what this season is about for us. We’re taking it one game at a time, but we know where we want to be at the end.”
